It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life. Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with duty of care, does not have the ability to perform resuscitation and/or first aid to the performance standard; it is not appropriate to issue a Statement of Attainment to students who are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements - a Certificate of Participation will be issued instead.

Recognize and respond to an emergency situation (with consideration of risk management). Apply appropriate first aid procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and operation of first aid equipment. Communicate details of the incident to emergency response services and workplace supervisors.

Evaluate and debrief appropriately following the incident. Learn principles and procedures for first aid management of the following scenarios:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Crush Injuries
  • Shock Bleeding
  • Unconsciousness
  • Envenomation
Our qualified assessors will ensure that you can recognise and respond to a range of workplace emergencies, injuries and medical conditions.
